Notes:
We have held an expert group meeting on international arrangments for transfer of technology, and an expert group meeting on home country measures. Two upcoming meetings will be held respectively on commercilisation of biotechnology and financing technology for SMEs.
-International arrangements
The Expert Meeting - International Arrangements for Transfer of Technology: Best Practices for Access to and Measures to Encourage Transfer of Technology with a view to Capacity-Building in Developing Countries, Especially in Least Developed Countries was held in Geneva from 27-29 June 2001.
The Outcome of this meeting has been an input for policy considerations at the sixth session of the Commission on Investment, Technology and Related Financial Issues, held from 21 to 25 January 2002.
-Home country measures
Expert Meeting on Home Country Measures(Geneva, 8-10 November 2000) stressed that the influence home country measures can be increased through tailor-made approaches and regional and country targeting suggesting the best practices in this area ought to be emulated, where appropriate, and applied in a co-operative spirit. International agreements, in some areas already do, provide a framework.
In relation to home country measures to promote transfer of technology , work is underway to compile home-country measures that could promote transfer of technology to developing countries, in particular LDCs.
