Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD)
The Commission is a subsidary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is comprised of 43 members and meets annually for a period of one week.

The Commission was established to provide the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council with high-level advice on relevant issues through analysis and appropriate policy recommendations or options in order to enable those organs to guide the future work of the United Nations, develop common policies and agree on appropriate actions.

The Commission is also mandated to assist the Economic and Social Council in the system-wide follow-up to the World Summit on the Information Society.

Since July 1993, the UNCTAD secretariat has been responsible for the substantive servicing of the Commission.

Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
The Economic and Social Council coordinates the work of the 14 UN specialized agencies, 10 functional commissions and five regional commissions; receives reports from 11 UN funds and programmes (click here for list of subsidiary bodies); and issues policy recommendations to the UN system and to Member States.

General Assembly (GA)
The General Assembly is the main deliberative organ of the United Nations. It is composed of representatives of all Member States, each of which has one vote. While the decisions of the Assembly have no legally binding force for Governments, they carry the weight of world opinion on major international issues, as well as the moral authority of the world community.
