Benchmarking Tool The ICT benchmarking tool was developed to provide policy-makers in developing countries with a useful interactive tool to assess their countries' ICT capabilities in terms of connectivity and ease of access and to compare them against those of other countries. Designed with a flexible and open-source system, the ICT Benchmarking tool allows users to configure the parameters to suit their specific needs.

ITU/UNCTAD
Digital Opportunity Index(DOI)
Jointly developed by ITU and UNCTAD, and
launched in June 2006, the DOI is a composite ICT development index which
tracks progress in infrastructure development, and charts progress towards
the WSIS goals and building of the Information Society. Updated annually,
the DOI is an important tool for international ICT performance evaluation
and benchmarking.

Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development
The Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development
was launched during UNCTAD XI in June 2004. Current partners include ITU,
OECD, UNCTAD, UNESCO Institute for Statistics, the UN Regional Commissions (ECLAC,
ESCWA, ESCAP, and ECA), the UN ICT Task Force/GAID, the World Bank, and
EUROSTAT. The Partnership has developed a core set of indicators in four
areas: ICT infrastructure and access, ICT access and use in households, ICT
use in business, and the ICT sector and trade in ICT goods.

ICT Opportunity Index (ICT-OI)
Launched during the Tunis phase of WSIS,
ICT-OI is the result of the merger of ITU’s Digital Access Index (DAI)
and Orbicom’s Monitoring the Digital Divide/Infostate conceptual
framework. ICT-OI focuses on links between ICT development and user
capabilities

Searchable
database with country background information(population, GNI per capita,
and adult literacy rates), ICT infrastructure & access(access to fixed line and mobile telephones, cost of phone calls, and TVs sets available),computers and the Internet
( data on access to personal computers and the internet ), ICT expenditures(ICT spending in per capita and absolute terms and as a percentage of GDP)
and
ICT business & government environment(survey data on the effect of the Internet in business and government).

ITU
World Telecommunication Indicators Database
The World Telecommunication Indicators Database contains time series data for the years 1960, 1965, 1970 and annually from 1975-2002 for around 80 sets of telecommunication statistics (updated) covering telephone network size and dimension, mobile services, quality of service, traffic, staff, tariffs, revenue and investment. Selected demographic, macro-economic, broadcasting and information technology statistics are also included. Data for over 200 economies are available.

WSIS
Stocktaking Activities
The WSIS Stocktaking is intended to fulfill
the dual purpose of providing an inventory of activities undertaken by
governments and all stakeholders in implementing the Geneva decisions (WSIS
Declaration of Principles and Plan of Action) and of taking stock of the
progress made in building the Information Society. The stocktaking was
launched in October 2004 and continues to be updated as a dynamic portal.
Open to all.
