The Commission is a subsidary body of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It is comprised of 33 members and meets biannually. It is a forum for:
-the examination of science and technology questions and their implications for development;
-the advancement of understanding on science and technology policies, particularly in respect of developing countries and;
-the formulation of recommendations and guidelines on science and technology matters within the United Nations system.

The Economic and Social Council coordinates the work of the 14 UN specialized agencies, 10 functional commissions and five regional commissions; receives reports from 11 UN funds and programmes (click here for list of subsidiary bodies); and issues policy recommendations to the UN system and to Member States.
General Assembly (GA)

The General Assembly is the main deliberative organ of the United Nations. It is composed of representatives of all Member States, each of which has one vote. While the decisions of the Assembly have no legally binding force for Governments, they carry the weight of world opinion on major international issues, as well as the moral authority of the world community.
