Policy Dialogue on GMOs adoption and trade: Policy options for developing countries
18 July 2003

UNCTAD organized a Policy Dialogue on "GMOs adoption and trade: Policy options for developing countries". The Policy Dialogue took place on 18 July 2003 from 10 a.m to12.00 noon in Room XII at the Palais des Nations, Geneva.

The potential for altering the genetic structure and characteristics of living organisms, including plants and animals, has resulted in many concerns about the safety and ethical implications of the new technologies. The Policy Dialogue provided an opportunity to discuss the policy options available to developing countries, as well as the different opinions on the suitability of adopting and trading in GMOs.

Keynote speakers included Dr. Albert Sasson, former Assistant Director General of UNESCO, and Dr. José Fernando Perez, Scientific Director, São Paulo State Research Support Foundation, and founder of the Genomic Research Organization of Brazil.
