Economic and Social Council elects members to the Commission on Science and Technology for Development

In a resumed organizational session held on 29 April 2008, the Economic and Social Council elected the following States by acclamation for a four-year term beginning on 1 January 2009: Austria, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Ghana, Israel, Jordan, Mali, Oman, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Slovakia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Switzerland.


Five vacancies remained to be filled, by two members each from the African States and Western European and Other States Group and one member from the Latin American and Caribbean States Group. An outstanding vacancy from the Eastern European States group remained to be filled with a term that would begin with the election and expire on 31 December 2010.
